The mission of Dickinson County Kinship, Inc., is to provide support to children who are vulnerable due to experiences in their lives by providing them with a supportive relationship with a mature caring adult. It is our expectation that through this relationship, the child will increase his/her sense of self-worth and develop the ability to cope successfully with difficulties in life.

Objectives:

  1. To promote a voluntary program that assists an emotionally mature adult in developing a supportive friendship with a child. This relationship will compliment the parent’s role in helping the matched child gain personal competence.
  2. To work with counselors in the community’s school districts in identifying children who may benefit from the Kinship program.
  3. To work with local service organizations and the religious community in promoting the program and soliciting adult volunteers.
  4. To thoroughly screen all applicants, including working with local law enforcement agencies and contacting references to ensure we have law-abiding citizens that could provide a safe and secure environment for the child.
