The mission of Dickinson County Kinship, Inc., is to provide support to children who are vulnerable due to experiences in their lives by providing them with a supportive relationship with a mature caring adult. It is our expectation that through this relationship, the child will increase his/her sense of self-worth and develop the ability to cope successfully with difficulties in life.
Objectives:
- To promote a voluntary program that assists an emotionally mature adult in developing a supportive friendship with a child. This relationship will compliment the parent’s role in helping the matched child gain personal competence.
- To work with counselors in the community’s school districts in identifying children who may benefit from the Kinship program.
- To work with local service organizations and the religious community in promoting the program and soliciting adult volunteers.
- To thoroughly screen all applicants, including working with local law enforcement agencies and contacting references to ensure we have law-abiding citizens that could provide a safe and secure environment for the child.
